Geometries in motion
A Valencian artist with an unmistakable style, Julián Calatrava creates a universe in which sculpture and painting interact in a perfect balance of irony, energy, and poetry.
Known for the series Monigotes, Calatrava works resin, metal, and color to create essential and dynamic figures that explore the human body as a symbol of movement, vitality, and belonging to the social fabric.
His works, placed at key points throughout the villa, establish a subtle dialogue with the architecture and light, becoming living presences that accompany guests on a journey of discovery and reflection on the human being, both as an individual and as part of a collective network.
Throughout his career he has received numerous awards, including the 1st Senyera Prize from the City of Valencia and the 1st Figurative Sculpture Prize from the City of Badajoz, as well as mentions and final selections in important international visual arts competitions throughout the Iberian Peninsula.
Through simplified forms and languages bordering on caricature and comics, Julián Calatrava recounts the exceptional in the everyday, transforming common gestures and objects, often contemporary accessories and gadgets, into narrative and poetic elements, suspended between reality and dream, useful for constructing a visual sensation.
His internationally recognized research has led him to exhibit in galleries and art institutions in Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and France, including, to name a few, Benlliure and the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, Gallery (Valencia), ArtSGK Galleries, Yacht Club, and Les Thermes (Monaco), Galerie Patries Van Dorst (Wassenaar), Galerie Christian Sauvegrain (Bourgoin), the Mathias Kuhn Foundation (Mallorca), and the UBS Foundation (Madrid).

A profoundly sensitive Venetian artist, one of the most significant of the late twentieth century, Pino Castagna (1932–2017) dedicated his research to the relationship between matter, time, and memory. An internationally renowned sculptor, ceramist, and printmaker, he transformed materials such as bronze, glass, ceramic, and concrete into essential and powerful forms, capable of uniting the primordial strength of matter with the lightness of poetic thought.
His works, such as Le Vele (now at the MART in Rovereto) or Lo spino del filo spinato (Verona), are symbolic installations that narrate the tension between fragility and resistance, collective memory and artistic gesture.
In the context of Villa Bocchi, his sculptures introduce a more intimate and contemplative voice: bronzes and ceramics that dialogue with light and space, evoking the passage of time and the permanence of the artistic gesture. Silent and vibrant presences that anchor aesthetics in history, lending depth and memory to the spaces of Villa Bocchi and transforming them into places of silent emotion.
In Pino Castagna's works, the artisan's skill merges with the vision of the contemporary sculptor, giving life to a language that transcends form to reflect on the human condition.
Trained in Verona, Venice, and his workshop in Costermano sul Garda, Castagna has exhibited in prestigious international contexts, from the Venice Biennale and the Milan Triennale to shows in Tokyo, New York, and Paris.
His work has found space in prestigious museums and collections such as the Giorgio Cini Foundation, the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, the Cariverona Foundation and the Silver Museum of Palazzo Pitti.
